Flagship Showroom opens in Shoreditch, London

This week we were delighted to throw open the doors to our new flagship Showroom at 40 Rivington Street in the heart of the Shoreditch Design Triangle.

Designed by local architect Thomas Longley, the former fashion boutique has been transformed in just over seven weeks, with the build-out creating as little impact as possible; the wooden flooring, exposed brick walls and metal staircase have all been restored, while the till cabinet was up-cycled to form part of a kitchenette at the rear of the space.

Recycled and low-impact materials have been used throughout. Water-based paint from Farrow & Ball covers the interior walls and exterior window frames. Recycled plastic panels - made from discarded white goods - from UK-based design and manufacturing house Smile Plastics, have been employed to cover the till space, cabinetry, and plinths. Additional features include curtains by local design brand Colours of Arley, vases by SZ Ceramics and argot studio, plus artwork by Molly van Amerongen.

The ground floor is designed to cater for our direct customers and local foot traffic, showcasing a full suite of chandeliers, pendants, floor lamps, low-level table lights and portables, with breakout seating areas by Vitra/Artek and Audo and a kitchenette to serve coffee and cold drinks.

The lower ground floor offers a range of professional services, with a central table for clients to share design plans and explore our curated library of material swatches and bulb options.

Joshua Ward, co-founder, says:

"This is a special milestone for Tala. It speaks to eight years of product development, great collaborations, and a whole lot of hard work from an outstanding team.

As many brands will attest, taking the plunge into brick and mortar is no easy decision, but when Maxwell Wood, William Symington and I first set eyes on the corner unit at 40 Rivington Street, we knew we had to go for it. Special thanks go out to a close friend, Thomas Longley, who architected a superb renovation of the former fashion boutique."
