Meet Blaize, our PR Coordinator

Before we get into this epic interview with Blaize, I’d like to introduce myself as Issey, Community Manager for Tala. Starting today, I’ll be interviewing the Tala Team regularly so you can get to know more about our amazing staff and what their roles at Tala entail. Bring on #TeamTala!

Hey Blaize, I love your glasses. Where are they from?
Why thank you! I think they’re great as well! They’re from a great brand called Cubitts. They’re also a relatively young, London-based brand, and they’re taking the glasswear/optical industry by storm!

So here we are in the Tala Studio. What’s your role here?
I have recently come on board as Tala’s PR Coordinator, where I am focusing on building and maintaining the brand’s relationships with press, partners and beyond within the UK market.

You’ve been with us for a month already, how are you finding it?
I’m so pumped – I’m loving it! The greatest thing about Tala is the people and the community that it’s fostered as it has grown. It’s a lovely bunch of kind people who share the same values, are passionate about what they do, and know how to have fun at the same time. Having beautiful product to work with helps as well!

What does a day in the life of Blaize look like at Tala?
Ultimately my job is about people and relationships. What I love is that every day is different (such a cliché to say I know), but at Tala I get the opportunity to leave my desk all the time to meet new people. Whether it’s a journalist or a new potential brand partner, I’m always out and about having conversations to take the brand to the next level. Or I’m at my desk responding to emails. It can’t be that fun and romantic all the time you know?

What about outside of work hours – what do you do in your spare time?
I studied classical music at uni (don’t ask how I ended it up here it’s a long story), so a lot of my free time is spent freelancing in orchestras and other ensembles, or teaching! (I’m a violinist). Other than that, you can find me in a bar with friends, or doing the odd bit of amateur photography.

Wow, thats an incredible skill – we are impressed! Favourite classical composer?
I have many and my taste in classical music is broad! I’m a sucker for a few of the classics like Mozart, Bach and Mendelssohn, but I also love edgier, modern, more experimental composers as well. Bela Bartok, Alfred Schnittke and Györgi Ligeti are some of my faves! If you’ve heard of them?!

I know a few but you lost me towards the end! haha.. You obviously listen to a variety of music, can you tell us what you’re currently loving and who your favourite artists are and why?
I do love my music, and again I have very eclectic taste! I’m really into dutch producer Full Crate at the moment, his tracks are so vibey and have a variety of different influences. Vocally I’m loving the British artist Jorja Smith, her voice is beaut and I hope to see her do big things. I’ve been listening to a lot of old school Mariah Carey recently, the Daydreamer album gives me life! But I’m also a big fan of Deep House, Hip-Hop and Garage as well. That’s usually what I’ll be out late raving to!

Yes Blaize! Thank you so much for taking 10 minutes out of your busy schedule to open up to myself and our community.. see you on the dance floor… or maybe the Royal Albert Hall – I’ll be watching from the crowd.
