Celebrating International Women's Day 2023

To celebrate International Women's Day, we salute three inspiring, female-led design studios and solo artists who use Tala bulbs in their work.

Using intricate techniques and materials, each studio offers a new way to display and experience light. Here, Katherine Moes, Made by AOS and Virginia Sin describe their practice and their relationship with Tala.

KATHERINE MOES

"I have been a studio ceramic artist for six years. My first few years I focused on small designs for the home; bells, incense holders, bowls, and bud vases. More recently I’ve been pushing myself to explore and play with sculptures. I’ve been working on ceramic stacking sculptures called Cairns, referencing stacking rock structures people build as trail markers."

"In 2022, I was invited to participate in a lamp show. It was in preparing for this exhibit that I found myself in search of a soft organic lightbulb form to be the top piece of my Cairn lamp. My design-minded husband found the Tala frosted Oval bulbs and it has been the perfect addition to this design. Going the extra step to invest in the Tala bulb elevated my piece and allowed it to exist as one with my lamp."

MADE BY AOS

"We are a team of female designers working with five groups of artisans in Ecuador. MADE BY AOS is a collection of products that merge design and local crafts. Our intention with each collaboration is to battle artisan's biggest problems of social inequality in our country, ensuring each partner a fair price.

Making Contemporary Handicrafts is a resistance to the disappearance of our multicultural identity, it is to continue transmitting infinite wisdom through the new generations. Working with artisan communities is almost a demand for anyone that aims to design/create in our country. Communities play a major role in the preservation of this knowledge."

"When you choose our lamps, you are enlightening growth opportunities for an invisible community of wood-workers, skilled weavers, welders and ceramists here in Ecuador. A small act of love that can turn into education for their kids, a new tool in their workshop or empowering them to continue with their practice.

AOS is proud to partner with Tala. Our handmade table and pendant lamps are complemented with LED innovative bulbs from Tala for a final touch to each creation.

VIRGINIA SIN

"Incorporating Tala bulbs into our designs has been an intrinsic counterpart to our sculptural ceramic lighting. We love how the bulbs help complete their intended look. The perfect temperature glows beautifully against all the various clay bodies we use."
